Four Artists, Big Vision

In an article in this month’s Bold Life, Elizabeth Harrison interviews artist Jan Van Matre, who specializes in an intriguing art form she calls “Collage Ephemera Smalls.” Borrowing something of the “artist trading cards” fad and making it her own, Van Matre embellishes vintage images with dialogue and text, resulting in quirky, often emotional vignettes.

On November 13, this Friday, Van Matre joins three other artists for the Art MoB Studios & Marketplace Fall Open House. All of the featured women are award-winning in divergent mediums: Laurie Adams creates figurative and abstract works in oil and encaustic, Barbara Glassman is a textile artist who specializes in hand-dyed silk scarves, and Beverly Kies is a pastel landscape painter. Her image shown here emotionally captures the transitional phase of late autumn.

“Come visit these ladies,” urges gallery owner Michele Sparks. (The work of more than 80 other local artists will be featured at this important show. Refreshments and a raffle for Relay For Life are part of the fun.)
