Streetwise: Best Bargains

BY MARSHALL GORDON

Times are tough. Unless you've won a big-buck lottery or just don't care about money, this is no time to be paying full retail. And, because it's just human nature to love a good deal, Bold Life wants to know,

"What's the best bargain you ever got?"

Kelly Johnson, Horse Shoe

My house because my dad built it for me.

Joanna LaQuerre, Hendersonville

I got a brand new coat for $1.35 at Maurice's in the mall. It was after Christmas and was marked 75 percent off. It's a great coat.

Doug Henning, Smyrna, GA

We bought a pop-up camper a few years ago. The dealer got the serial number off by one digit, so we got a new camper for the price of a used one. The dealer stood by the deal.

Karen Knight, Crab Creek

My dog Sydney. We went to a breeder who was selling Lab puppies for $375. We saw a pup off in the distance, all dirty and playing with a duck in a pen. He said she was the runt of the litter and we could have her for $75. Best dog we've ever had.

Betty King, Etowah

My Toyota Prius. The dealership gave me a good deal trade-in value for my Toyota Highlander. The Prius is a hybrid and averages 50 mpg versus 24 for the Highlander.

Jim Murgolo, Hendersonville

I got a round trip airline ticket for two people from Phoenix, Arizona to Newark, New Jersey for $450...it was a smoking deal.

Kelvin Ham, Hendersonville

My 1955 Chevy pickup. I paid $6000 for it in 2006 fully restored. Saw one recently in Fletcher for $13,500 and it wasn't in as nearly good shape.

Deborah Rhinehart, Brevard

Heat insulated curtains. I got them for three bucks at Goodwill. I put them in my living room doorway to block off the kitchen so I could get my living room toasty with my space heater.
