Charles Counts: A Retrospective Exhibition - Charles Counts was an expert potter, weaver, teacher and writer. He influenced artists and brought worldwide attention to American crafts. The show features over 146 objects including ceramics, quilts, rugs, drawings and paintings, as well as photographs and other archival material. Through May 2. Loren Schwerd: Mourning Portrait - Sculptor and mixed media artist Loren Schwerd exhibits her Mourning Portrait collection. In this exhibit, Schwerd uses metal frameworks, hair extensions commonly used by African-American women and photos from the Ninth Ward to commemorate Hurricane Katrina victims. Nouns: Children's Book Artists Look at People, Places and Things - This exhibition examines original book illustrations from artists who primarily work with children's books. The exhibition includes working drawings, finished paintings, collages, molded paper, woodcuts and digitally produced illustrations from well-known as well as emerging artists. Phil Mechanic Studio Exhibit - The twenty studios in the Phil Mechanic building house more than thirty artists working in a variety of mediums including painting, ceramics, metal work, fiber art, woodworking, photography, glass, puppetry and performance art. Richard Ritter: 40 Years in Glass - Ritter is known for his experimental techniques with "murrini" - segments with a patterned cross section, sliced from a glass rod - which he incorporates into his glass pieces.
