Old is gold this month in downtown Hendersonville.
The city’s historic downtown shopping district will welcome antique dealers from across the Southeast during the 19th annual Sidewalk Antique Show. The event runs one day only, rain or shine, from 9 am to 5pm on Saturday, June 19.
Karen Shirlin, executive director of Downtown Hendersonville Inc., says the show has become one of the downtown area’s most popular yearly offerings.
“We have about 75 antique dealers from throughout the Southeast committed to this event,” she says. “Past attendance has been about 10,000 people according to Henderson County Travel and Tourism.
Shoppers aren’t the only ones looking forward to the show. The Southeast antique dealers also make a beeline for the event, according to Shirlin. Hendersonville’s sidewalk sale is on many dealers’ calendars just after a larger show to the south. “We follow a show in Atlanta, so a lot of the dealers just have us on their circuit to follow that show,” she says.
Thousands of items will be set up on the sidewalks up and down Main Street. The free (unless, of course, you make a purchase or two) event will have everything from furniture and home decor to smaller items like jewelry, toys and household items. In addition to the dealers who trek to Hendersonville, the event attracts antique hounds from all over the region as well, all of them on the hunt for that one-of-a-kind item.
Shirlin says the show makes for a nice day in Hendersonville. While strolling Main Street, visitors can recharge their batteries at any number of restaurants or they continue their shopping spree inside the numerous downtown specialty shops. The antique show is also a good chance to glimpse the new lineup of Bearfootin’ Bears that are currently on the prowl up and down Main Street.
