Asheville Symphony Chorus Presents Handel’s Messiah: Passion & Resurrection
April 27, 2019 @ 7:30 pm$15 – $25
In English speaking countries the most well-known and most often-performed choral/orchestral composition is unquestionably G. F. Handel’s Messiah. This dearly-loved masterpiece is inextricably related to the Christmas season. Many people are not aware, however, that Handel himself led performances of the work during Holy Week, not at Christmastime. Furthermore, the Christmas section of Messiah, called by Handel “Part the First,” is only the first third of the piece. The most famous chorus of the work, “Hallelujah,” is actually the closing movement of “Part the Second,” and is not in the Christmas section.
You are invited to hear the Asheville Symphony Chorus, four professional vocal soloists and members of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra perform Handel’s Messiah “Part the Second” and “Part the Third.” The performance will take place Saturday, April 27, 7:30 p.m. at Arden Presbyterian Church, 2215 Hendersonville Road, Arden, 28704. To purchase tickets, access ashevillesymphonychorus.com and click on “View Upcoming Performances.” Tickets will also be available at the door.
If you enjoy the Christmas portion of Messiah, you will love the remaining two-thirds of this spectacular masterpiece. Remember, you will still get to hear “Hallelujah!”
