Asheville Wordfest: Healing the Soul of Appalachia

April 12, 2019 - April 14, 2019

Maintaining a commitment to multicultural programming, the 11th Asheville Wordfest invites audiences and participants to venture deeply into spaces of tension and complexity in search of possibility with readings and workshops featuring poets, authors, artists, storytellers, and community facilitators. Asheville’s Literary Festival, Asheville Wordfest, welcomes North Carolina Poet Laureate Jake Shelton Green. Wordfest is delighted to host North Carolina’s Poet Laureate, particularly Jaki, whose devotion to teaching and building the SisSTAR-hood runs as deep as the rivers rushing inside the mountains. Wordfest also welcomes award-winning poet of witness and human rights advocate Carolyn Forché. Wordfest will be the launching place of Forché’s latest work, What You Have Heard Is True: a Memoir of Witness and Resistance.
