Local author Terry Ruscin will present an illustrated program at the Kaplan Auditorium at the Henderson County Library at 2pm, Tuesday, Nov. 13. The slideshow and talk will center around Ruscin’s latest book, Images of America: Henderson County, which was released this September. Images and facts include the county’s first deed, which was not for an exchange of land. Other firsts include the first commercial building on Main Street, first city hall, first hospital, first black registered nurse, first bank, and first black church. The program and book take in the entire county with images and facts from Macedonia and Mountain Page, to Gerton, Bat Cave, Middle Fork and Shaws Creek. The collection of photographs includes fires, mills, still, houses of worship, schools, commercial buildings and homes, and families and individuals. Ruscin, a member of the Henderson County Historic Resources Commission and frequent lecturer, has written several books on the history and heritage of Western North Carolina. He also pens the monthly history column Beyond the Banks for the Hendersonville Times-News. The program is free and open to the public.
