Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass Concert
March 3, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pmFree
The Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass (BRSB), conducted by Maestro Jamie Hafner, will perform on Sunday, March 3, at the Brevard First Baptist Church. The BRSB, a 28-piece brass choir, is dedicated to sharing the symphonic brass repertoire with music patrons in local communities. The 3pm concert is free and open to the public, but donations are accepted. The program includes a wide variety of musical styles, such as Renaissance composer Giovanni Gabrieli’s Canzona per sonare No 2, Irish Tune from County Derry by Percy Grainger, Richard Strauss’ Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare and a lighthearted jazzy selection titled Another Cat: Kraken by Chris Hazell. The organ and brass will join forces for Grand Choeur Dialogue by French composer Eugene Gigout. The Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass features outstanding musicians from the Brevard, Hendersonville, Asheville and Greenville areas. Many perform with professional orchestras and bands or teach at universities and schools in the region. The ensemble’s instrumentation includes trumpets, horns, euphoniums, trombones, tubas and percussion. Conductor Jamie Hafner is a well known musical personality, having most recently served as director of bands at Brevard College. He is director emeritus of bands at the University of Toledo and director emeritus of education at the Brevard Music Center. Maestro Hafner is also currently the conductor of the Brevard Community Band. Email the band at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Web site at www.blueridgesymphonicbrass.org.
