Celtic Journey With Jamie Laval
April 7, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm$22.50
Jamie Laval, fiddle champion and passionate advocate for the value of arts and music in communities, will perform an afternoon concert in Tryon’s Depot Room on Sunday, April 7, at 4pm. Collaborating with Laval is the enchanting vocalist Megan McConnell, known to local residents as the angelic voice of Jamie Laval’s Celtic Christmas show, which plays annually in Asheville and Tryon. The historic Tryon Depot will serve as a performance venue for the occasion, thanks to the generous support of Parsec Financial, the current owner of the building. In this family-friendly, sit down concert, Laval and McConnell take their audience on an exciting musical journey through Scotland, Ireland, and Brittany (Celtic France), evocatively reimagining Gaelic love songs, toe-tapping peasant dances, and recounting mysterious tales from the ancient Celtic world. On occasion, the duo makes some surprising departures by infusing the genre with pop and world beat references. A current resident of Tryon, Laval is recognized throughout the U.S. and Britain as one of the premier performers of Celtic music on the international touring circuit. He has performed for Her Majesty the Queen, appeared on Dave Matthews’ platinum Some Devil album, and presented a talk in TEDx Tryon. Visit www.jamielaval.com to learn more. Vocalist Megan McConnell is lauded for the ethereal, lyric beauty of her singing, her broad stylistic range, and her perky, theatrical performance sense.
