Commemoration of Piedmont Airlines Flight 22 Crash 50th Anniversary

The Henderson County Heritage Museum, in conjunction with the Henderson County Rescue Squad, will hold a ceremony remembering the mid-air collision of Piedmont Airlines Flight 22 and a Cessna 310 on July 19, 1967. The crash over Hendersonville killed all 82 occupants of the two planes and happened in a wooded area near Interstate 26 and Camp Pinewood. Hundreds of people witnessed the crash. Paul Houle, author of The Crash of Piedmont Airlines Flight 22: Completing the Record of the 1967 Midair Collision near Hendersonville, North Carolina, will speak and discuss improvements in air safety as a result of the crash. Other speakers will honor those lost and the emergency response from Henderson County. There will be a display of historic photographs, video accounts from eye witnesses and a piece of fused metal from the crash. The public is invited to attend.
