Design Strategies and the Importance of White in Watercolor
October 26, 2018 - October 27, 2018$170
Developing gutsy, coherent backgrounds is the foundation for painting in any media. In this workshop students will achieve those backgrounds through studying tried and true design strategies using demos, lectures, Power Point presentations, handouts and hands-on painting. The class will start by developing a painting of a white object or flower. Each artist can bring something white from home, or you will be supplied with something. The teacher, Susan Webb Tregay, will take you through the steps of subtle washes, drawing, saving whites with negative painting, designing your background, and finally looking for nuances of color in your white object. On Saturday, in a second painting, the class will combine this lesson with color strategies punching in color and color vibrations to make a strong, full painting, background and all. This workshop will be taught in watercolor only. Bring your own watercolors, or we will supply you. Please, wear no perfume, or perfumed products such as heavily-scented detergent or Bounce. The artist’s watercolors can be seen at www.Tregay.com.
