Etowah Heritage Day 1889-2019

October 19, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free

Etowah Heritage Day takes place on Saturday, Oct. 19, and celebrates the history of the west Henderson County community and the Etowah Valley.  This special event marks 130 years since the first post office was established in 1889.  It is located on the grounds of the Etowah Branch Library and includes exhibitors, refreshments and commemorative giveaways while supplies last. Music will be performed by Lillian Chase and Company, a sixth generation Western North Carolina fiddler. Lillian Chase & Company will play traditional old-time tunes.  Lillian Chase, 15, has played stages large and small, from Merlefest to Shindig on the Green to house concerts and square dances, and she is joined by her 13-year old sister, Sara Nell, and the fabulous Shane Elliott.  In this region, tunes are passed down from person to person, and this group of two fiddles and a banjo will bring that music to life in Etowah.
