Forest Bathing for Creatives
November 4, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm$100
Do you like how it feels to create but struggle to get yourself into your studio? Do you manage to pull out your brushes (or pens, or sewing machine, or…) but stress out once you do? If so, this workshop is for you. Shinrin-Yoku, a Japanese term meaning taking in the forest atmosphere or forest bathing, was developed in Japan during the 1980s and has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine. It has also been shown to improve creativity and bolster focus. Now you can experience the phenomenon right here in Asheville as artist and forest therapy guide in practicum, Kathleen Forrest, takes you on a forest bathing journey to reset your parasympathetic nervous system and jump start your creative process. Participants will spend the morning in UNCA’s Botanical Gardens. Forrest will be the guide and give you invitations to help connect your senses to nature. After lunch in the woods, participants will return to Purple Crayon, where you’ll use the experience of forest bathing to explore the mystery of the creative process using a variety of materials.
