Homelessness Prevention and Affordable Housing Lunch and Learn

Pisgah Legal Services hosts a free homelessness prevention and affordable housing lunch and learn with community leaders on April 1. Learn how local advocates are working together to prevent homelessness and address issues of affordable housing. It will be held at First United Methodist Church, 206 6th Avenue W., Hendersonville. Doors open at 11:30am. The program is from noon to 1:15pm. This is a free event open to the community. A suggested donation of $10 to cover the cost of lunch is appreciated but not required. Pisgah Legal Services’ managing attorney and North Carolina Housing Coalition board chair, Robin Merrell, presents a presentation followed by a panel discussion with PLS staff attorney Casey Steen; Thrive Operations Director Carrington Cosby; WCCA Housing Director Sheryl Fortune; Housing Assistance Corp. representative Ashlynn McCoy; and FUMC Mission Pastor Jeremy Morris. Since 1978, Pisgah Legal Services has helped low-income people meet their basic needs, such as protection from domestic violence, avoiding homelessness, finding safe housing, accessing health care and increasing income. The nonprofit’s main service area includes 11 counties in WNC, with offices in Asheville, Burnsville, Brevard, Hendersonville, Marshall and Rutherfordton. This is the first in a series of community education lunch and learn events planned for Henderson County this year. Pisgah Legal Services seeks to elevate the conversation about pressing local and national issues. This event focuses on the challenges faced by those experiencing a housing crisis and how Pisgah Legal Services and other agencies within Henderson County can help.
