Introduction to Eco Printing
July 5, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
$120
Did you know that leaves, flowers, seeds, roots, and bark leave behind a unique signature when exposed to water and heat? If you’ve ever wanted to explore the wonders of eco printing — the all-natural process of transferring plant and leaf images onto fabric — this entry-level workshop is for you. Patricia Spangler has been natural dying and eco printing for a number of years. Join her as she explains the basics of eco printing and shows you how to lay out and design an eco print, bundle and process materials, and pre- and post-mordant fabric. As a final project, you will print your own silk scarf. She will provide silk for sampling, tannins, mordants, modifiers/facilitators, and one silk scarf per student. You may want to bring a variety of leaves and/or flowers and some well washed 100 percent silk fabrics or silk garments to print if time allows.
