Introduction to Pyrography
April 25, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm$40
Pyrography is the art of decorating wood by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point. In this introductory workshop, pyrography artist Annie Rule will review materials needed for this ancient art, as well as necessary safety precautions. Then the fun begins!
Annie will teach you how to use a basic woodburning tool to create a line design on a small, coaster-size, wood slice. Next, you’ll have the option to add color to your piece using watercolor, brush pens, or acrylic paint, and to make your piece more functional by attaching magnets or coaster bumpers. Finally, you’ll learn how to apply polyurethane to finish your work.
You may use one of Annie’s images, or you may email her one of your own line designs for approval. If you choose to use your own image, please note:
— Your image should be a simple line drawing, similar to what you’d see in a children’s coloring book
— Should be approximately 5″ x 5″
— Must have Annie’s approval prior to the workshop
If these criteria aren’t met, Annie may ask you to use one of her images to ensure that your first piece is a success!
