Laurel Chapter of EGA hosts International Teacher

October 16, 2019 - October 17, 2019

The Laurel Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America located in Hendersonville, North Carolina is hosting a teacher on the International Teacher Tour. The two-day workshop, entitled Tasmanian Hoot Owl, will be held on November 16 and 17 at the City of Hendersonville Assembly Room. The event has drawn 28 participants from Ohio, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida , Kentucky, and North Carolina.

Gary Clarke, who lives in Tasmanian, Australia,  will be teaching the  workshop.   Gary was born in Tasmania and studied Art at Launceston Matriculation and Arts College, with distinctions in both,  and studied and worked as a textile designer under Rudy Jenny from “Bauhaus School of Design” in Germany. He had written six books on embroidery as well as taught and lectured on embroidery in England, New Zealand, Canada, the United States and throughout Australia.  Gary has taught classes at several EGA national seminars and has participated n several of the seminar-associated International Travel Tours.

The project, Tasmanian Screech Owl, is a study in minimalism.  It is stitched on a stretched organza base using one stand of six-stranded cotton.  Each stitch has its
purpose and creates a dark and sketchy look to the work. The colors used are muted and earthy mimicking the owl’s natural habitat.
