Literary Afternoon with Amy Duernberger

Author Amy Duernberger will discuss her book:  Exploring the Southern Appalachian Grassy Balds:  A Hiking Guide published by the University of South Carolina Press.  Duernberger will explore the wonder and mystery of southern Appalachian grassy balds,  including their presence in Native American myths, theories on how balds originated, and representative flora and fauna. Based on her book, she will spotlight these “treeless wonders” that have long baffled scientists and enchanted outdoor enthusiasts.  She’ll discuss these unique ecosystems and offer a guide to 19 representative hiking trails in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.  Duernberger is a longtime lover of the outdoors and has worked for the National Park Service on the Blue Ridge Parkway and now lives in Hendersonville. She holds a masters degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina.
