Railroads in WNC

May 9, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$30 – $40

Two-session course will focus on the three ways the railroads constructed tracks up and through the mountains: creating loops, building straight up and over, and carving shelves above the rivers. The course also looks at the reasons investors and the state were driven to build railroads in the region. Ray Rapp, an adjunct faculty member at Mars Hill University and the author of a book on WNC railroading, leads the course.
