Saluda Train Tales

April 20, 2018 @ 7:00 pm

Free

Larry Morton, president of the Apple Valley Model Railroad Club, will tell stories of what it took to take a train up and down the Saluda Grade. He will discuss wrecks that happened on the grade and what Southern Railway did to cut down on the cost, both in dollars and in human injury and loss of life. A total of 27 men were killed by runaway trains in the grade’s early days of existence. Saluda Train Tales is a free monthly event that educates the community about the importance of Saluda’s railroad history. Donations are encouraged.
