In Search of the Blue Ghosts

June 6, 2017 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 8:30 pm, repeating until June 10, 2017

$15

The Blue Ridge is home to a very unique creature that some say resembles a tribe of fairies carrying blue candles through the forest. The Blue Ghost Firefly (Phausis reticulata) is a secretive, hard-to-find native insect that calls this area home, and for a very short amount of time in early summer, they inhabit the surrounding woodlands of Transylvania County.  You’ll be led by a trained naturalist and use the cover of darkness and special flashlights to learn about the creatures that go “bump in the night” at the Cradle of Forestry, while hiking the paved trails to look for this special population of blue ghosts.  Call 828-884-3443 for more information.  Pre-registration is required.  This is a rain or shine, family-friendly event.
