Stream Monitoring Information Exchange (SMIE) Training

Want to protect WNC’s rivers and streams? This workshop trains adults 17 and up in water quality monitoring methods. Topics covered include: basic stream ecology, how to report water quality problems, aquatic insect identification, and field sampling skills. No experience is necessary. The SMIE training will take place on Saturday, April 6,, at Haywood Community College at 3300 Building, Room 3331. The group will spend the morning in a lab learning background stream ecology and aquatic macroinvertebrate identification. The group will break for lunch (bring your own) and then carpool to a nearby stream where we will practice the sampling methods in the field. Be sure to dress appropriately.
