The Interconnected Web: Protecting Ourselves from What We Don’t Know — Yet

June 7, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

What do climate change, light pollution, and invasive species all have in common?  They are all having an impact on life in Transylvania County.  R.K. Young will present The Interconnected Web: Protecting Ourselves from What We Don’t Know—Yet during the Discover Natural Transylvania program on Thursday, June 7, at 6:30pm in the Rogow Room at the Transylvania County Library. At the intersection of the geological and biological sciences is the psychological — the human science.  We are a stubborn species, tending to “like what we like” and preferring to not be jarred from that habit.  But like the recommendations to plant Asian species because they are “bug proof”  —accommodating our likes comes at a cost. There is a lot we don’t know about our environment and our relationship with it that could bite us somewhere sensitive. This program will focus on simple concepts that property owners can take advantage of to protect themselves while they protect the property and life for which they are stewards.
