They Were There on D-Day 1944

Hear the stories of two World War II veterans who served in the D-Day invasion in 1944. At Brevard’s Western North Carolina Military History Museum, this free lecture will be presented by two D-Day veterans. Flat Rock resident George Sarros will tell stories of being a motor machinist on an LST (Landing Ship, Tanks) which unloaded tanks, ambulances, engineers, and other troops onto Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. Ray Pegram of Spindale will share his experiences as a radio operator on a C-47, which dropped Pathfinder paratroops, gliders, and supplies into Normandy on D-Day. The WNC Military History Museum is located at 21 East Main St. in Brevard, beside the courthouse. For more information, call 828-884-2141.
