In his fourth decade of songwriting, Earl Turner lists his influences as Bob Dylan, James Taylor, JJ Cale, J.D. Souther and many others. In addition to playing solo gigs that feature his own work, he plays in the folk group, Hummingtree Band, based out of Black Mountain. The other two band members are long-time friends who are also songwriters. Turner, currently of Landrum, S.C., has played at venues from Eddie’s Atttic in Atlanta to Floyd’s General Store in Floyd, Va. He has also opened for the Waymores featuring accomplished songwriters Tom Kimmel, Sally Barris, and Don Henry, author of Where’ve You Been, a hit song by Kathy Mattea.
