Women in Government Panel Discussion

The League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe County and the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont will team up to present Women in Government, an event designed to inspire young women to pursue careers in public service. The program will feature a panel discussion by five area women who currently hold leadership roles in government and public service. The event will be held in Ferguson Auditorium on the campus of AB-TechPanelists include N.C. State Sen. Terry Van Duyn; N.C. State Rep. Susan Fisher; Asheville City Manager Debra Campbell; District Court Judge Susan Dotson-Smith; and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Jill Banks. Each panelist will share aspects of her personal career journey, including what led her to pursue a career in public service, the path she took to attain her present position, and the challenges and rewards of a career in public service. The Girl Scouts will have a prominent role in the program, introducing the panelists and asking questions submitted from the audience. An informal meet and greet will be held with the panelists immediately after the program.
