Everything and the Kitchen Sink

In a 30-page special section, Bold Life’s companion quarterly Carolina Home + Garden overflows with resplendent sanctuaries. The annual fall special section is a prelude to the Asheville Kitchen & Bath Show this weekend, October 15 and 16 at the WNC Ag Center.

Kitchens and baths are still vying with popular “outdoor rooms” for being the most important spaces in the house. Certain trends do emerge — including a fresh preference for open shelving instead of upper cabinetry, selective use of natural substances, and lots of light colors complemented by windows galore.

However, kitchens and baths remain proverbial blank slates for homeowners and designers. Possibilities for artistic touches are almost endless, and an ever-growing selection of materials (think polished concrete, rustic reclaimed wood, ultra-modern veneer core) means there’s no narrow “look of the moment.” Instead of becoming dated, these rooms expand with the times.

Looking at ultra-luxe finished rooms can be overwhelming, though. And that’s where the more than 50 vendors on tap at the Asheville Kitchen & Bath show can lather the long process, guiding homeowners in their renovation and new-build projects. From tile to tub, stove to sink, it’s a room full of monumental potential served up with a friendly vibe.

Asheville Kitchen & Bath Show, October 15 and 16, 10am-5pm Saturday and 10am-4pm Sunday, at the Davis Event Center, WNC Agricultural Center (1301 Fanning Bridge Road, Fletcher). $5 in advance. ashevillekitchenbath.com
