Oskar Blues Brewery is heating things up for a charitable chili event.
They say it’s going to be the coldest winter in 100 years. No, really. It’s not just the Farmer’s Almanac this time: all the weather models agree. So why wait until January, the typical month of chili cook-offs, to offer up your best recipe? Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard hosts a Chili Cook Off this week, on November 20, inviting professionals and amateurs alike to offer up their choicest recipes.
The contest is a fundraiser; proceeds benefit the CAN’daid foundation, the brewery’s charitable arm for environmental and social causes.
“After we donated 38,000 cans of water to South Carolina after the flood in October, we decided to further help by putting together a group to go down to SC and help with the clean-up effort,” brewery marketer J Weber tells Bold Life.
“All reps from CAN’d Aid are located in Colorado [site of the original Oskar Blues],” he explains, “but are flying in this week to go to SC with us. They’re using their time here as an opportunity to throw a CAN’d Aid event to get their name out to the local community … after brainstorming, we simply decided a chili-cook off would be a fun idea for this time of year.”
The event is simple and casual: no fussy categories, few rules. For information on how to participate at either end of the spoon, check out the event’s Facebook page: Big Money Chillion-aire: A Chili Cookoff.
