Amateur and professional cooks alike bring the spice for the 15th annual Chili Cook-Off in Fletcher.
Winter finally got here, and after a long bout of being snowbound, it’s nice to get out and enjoy a friendly, well-flavored competition stirred up for a good cause. The 15th Annual Town of Fletcher Chili Cook-Off, a donation-based event for the Fletcher Development Fund, happens Saturday, January 30.
“This year, we will have 18 chefs fighting for the title of ‘Best Chili in Fletcher,’” says Nicole Sweat, recreation program supervisor for Fletcher Parks and Recreation. She leaks some recipe titles, all of them promising: “Bulldog Chili,” “Lone Star Iron Pot Chili,” and “Belly Burner Special.” Individual cooks and businesses alike will represent: a few of the latter entrants include Fletcher restaurants Dickey’s Barbecue and Baabals Ice Cream and Grill.
Awards will be given in the following categories: Best Overall Chili, Best Individual Chili, Best Business Chili, Best Table Décor, and People’s Choice.
