To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, Henderson County's public libraries are celebrating A Universe of Stories with reading challenges and programs geared toward helping children build reading and language skills. All ages can stop by any library location to pick up reading logs between June 3 and Aug. 3. Returned logs are entered into drawings for prizes from each location.

Feed the Need

All of Henderson County's public libraries will serve as Feed the Need collection spots. The program supports children during the summer who rely on meals served at school as their main source of nutrition. Food donations may be dropped off from June 3 through Aug. 3. Food will go directly to children and should be in containers that are easy to open with their hands without tools.

Sale offers 30,000 sorted books in all genres with an expanded choice books section with rare and collectible books.  There are printed music, puzzles, DVDs, and CDs.  There are no restrictions, and dealers are welcome. Guided walks will be held in June in downtown Hendersonville. Participants will learn about the city's history and its interesting architectural designs. There will be stops at the Historic Courthouse, Skyland Hotel, City Hall, and historic shops. Cost is $10 for ages 10 and older. Space is limited, so call to make reservations. The tour meets at the Hendersonville City Hall at the Police Department entrance.

The Women's Guild of Immaculate Conception Church will again be hosting their annual rummage sale at Immaculata School Gym, 711 N. Buncombe St., Hendersonville. Doors will be open from 9am to 4pm on Thursday and Friday, June 20 and 21, and from 9am to noon on Saturday, June 22. Saturday brown bags are $6 each. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Immaculata School and many local Hendersonville charities.
