Enhancing Your Style

What will save print books from online oblivion? The so-called “maker” lifestyle, some predict. It’s true that handsomely photographed, coffeetable-style DIY books about cooking, designing, and decorating fill bookstore shelves these days, reflecting and perpetuating the current culture of stylish self-improvement.

A shiny, happy event at Fountainhead Books in Hendersonville on Saturday, September 12, boasts lifestyle gurus of considerable renown. On the menu: Donald Drake, culinary-arts director at posh Magnolias restaurant in Charleston, who’ll share his new book, Uptown Down South Cuisine. Photographer Emily J. Followill, who has more than 20 years’ experience chronicling the Southern lifestyle for Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living, Garden & Gun, and other publications, will promote her own new book, The Southern Rustic Cabin, a photographic tour of restored gems from Alabama to Virginia. Sarah Hoffert and Michael McGinn of Down South Vintage will talk about why vintage culture is on fire these days, and tell how to distinguish the true hallmarks of the style. Finally, Asheville’s own author/beer expert Anne Fitten Glenn will be on tap, bringing copies of her Asheville Beer book to sign, and dispensing wisdom about the craft-brew explosion that changed WNC’s cultural landscape forever.

Events start at 10:30am. See www.fountainheadbookstore.com for ticket information. https://www.boldlife.com/event/lifestyle-enhancing-events/
