Garden of Arty Delights

Transylvania Community Art Council’s summer “ART SPARK – Ignite Your Passion for the Arts!” fundraiser auction doesn’t officially happen until August 9, at the Old Bishop Place Farm in Cedar Mountain. However, the garden-themed outdoor works have already been planted for public display.

Fans eager to see new pieces by the dozens of participating artists – among then Charles Guffey, Marty Ray, “Mossin’” Annie Martin, Mark Connelley, Dave Lassater, and Katy Rosenberg – can get a good look beginning this Friday, July 24.

Concurrent with the latest summer gallery walk in Brevard, and with the art council’s annual meeting, the preview of auction items happens 5-8pm at TCArts’ downtown gallery (349 S. Caldwell St.). The exhibit’s up until two days before the $55 August event, which will include both a live and silent auction and heavy hors d’oeuvres.

The July 24 preview party is free, though – and with so many creatives throwing their pottery wheels (or brushes or welding tools, as the case may be) into the mix, it’s nice to get a peek at what’s on offer.

Tammy Hopkins, TCArts’ executive director, notes that “this is our second year hosting an art auction to benefit art-council programs. More than 34 artists have created items for the theme, and four artists will create live paintings at the event that will be auctioned off as the grand finale.

“We love how the community has stepped forward to participate,” she adds.
