Meeting Your Maker

In this month’s issue of Bold Life, we talk to singers in the Fletcher Community Chorus, an inclusive group that doesn’t require formal auditions for membership.

A similar idea informs the “Do-It-Yourself Messiah” event coming up at the Tryon Fine Arts Center on Thursday, December 17. Everyone is invited to join the chorus, raising their voices to interpret Handel’s famous Christmas composition. However, talented pipes are definitely not a prerequisite. “It’s for singers, would-be singers, choir groupies, Baroque karaoke enthusiasts, and even those who can’t carry a tune,” insist coordinators in a press statement.

A conductor, soloists, and instrumentalists do the professional part, and the audience merely provides the chorus, for a wonderfully interactive experience that promises Christmas catharsis and lots of smiles. 7:30pm. Free. 34 Melrose Ave., Tryon. 828-859-8322. www.tryonarts.org.
