Not Just Another Pretty Voice

Fresh-faced tenor Emmet Cahill brings his star power to an intimate venue.

Ireland’s folklorically named Emmet Cahill took the world by storm as singer for the supergroup Celtic Thunder. Now he’s building a solo career with much the same electrical energy.

Packing big-name houses all over the globe, Celtic Thunder repeatedly clinched the number-one spot on world-music charts. Cahill’s powerfully classic voice can fill the most vaulted venues, but it also enriches smaller stages, including the Brevard First United Methodist Church (across from Brevard College), where he’ll appear on December 6.

Classical-music destination Brevard is no stranger to hosting rising tenors such as Cahill (as well as rising sopranos, prodigy violinists, and award-studded quartets and ensembles from the cream of the genre). However, Cahill’s local show, which will include holiday pop favorites and hymns but also Broadway hits and treasured Irish tunes, promises to be a refreshing addition to the cast of usual Christmas-concert players.

December 6 at 7pm, Brevard First United Methodist Church. $20. 325 N. Broad St. 828-883-902
