Learn about growing your own herbs and flowers at the Spring Garden Symposium.

On the hunt for spring gardening tips? The Master Gardeners’ Spring Garden Symposium at the Transylvania County Library on March 19 features classes on container gardening and growing your own culinary herbs and cut flowers for bouquets.

Jackie Greenfield, owner of Good Scents Herb and Flower Company, has over 30 years of organic gardening experience and will be leading sessions on growing your own kitchen herbs and cut flowers — both for fresh and dried arrangements.

Greenfield said she will share “some of the things I’ve learned through the years that are really helpful, like a way to harvest your chives so it encourages more growth.”

Growing your own herbs and flowers makes them fresher and more fragrant when you can harvest and use them right away, she noted.

Hope Janowitz, owner of New Leaf Garden Market in Pisgah Forest, will discuss the basics of container gardening, describing how to keep your container garden beautiful year-round and suggesting great container plant combinations for spring.

Spring Garden Symposium, March 19, 8:30am-1:30pm, Transylvania County Library’s Rogow Room (212 South Gaston St., Brevard), $6. Sponsored by the Transylvania County Cooperative Extension, 828-884-3109.
